Vera D. Covell, age 96, of Sand Creek, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her home. She was born July 17, 1919, in San Benito, TX to Felix and Anastasia (Turzinski) Wicka. She graduated from the Wibaux High School in Wibaux, Montana. She worked for the Army Engineers in Seattle, WA. On June 26, 1945 she married Ensign Edgar Covell in Seattle, WA and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2006.
She belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian, the Jasper Women's Club, the Fair Fields Garden Club, the Lenawee County Federation Club, the Lenawee Historical Museum, the Christian Mothers of St. Joseph, New Garments Always, the Women of the Moose and the Red Hatters. She worked as a guide at the Historical Museum; was active in "Meals on Wheels"; and volunteered in nursing homes. She was also a member of the Larkin Club.
Vera is survived by three daughters, Darlene Covell of Belleville, MI, Diane (Donald) Baker of Onsted, and Linda (Dan) Cirner of Chelsea; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Wicka of Beach, ND; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Edgar, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Anthony Strouse and Deacon Leonard Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian where a Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m., to be followed by the service
